Description :
The mostly raw material used for Paithani is silk yarn, zari, and colors. Another major raw used in the production of Paithani Silk Saree is ‘zari’. In the olden days the zari was drawn from pure gold, but today silver is replaced for gold, thus making the Paithanis more affordable to medium class. Three types of zari are mostly used for the border, Butti, and Pallu.
Available in both six and nine yards, the most interesting part about the Paithani handloom is that both sides of the saree look the same. Yes, even the border and pallu. In fact, this feature is the telltale sign of a handloom Paithani. A power loom Paithani will show threads on the reverse side. Another key feature of this saree that forms an integral part of a Maharashtrian bride’s trousseau is that it doesn’t lose its luster and unlike other silks, doesn’t wear out at the folds.
